Summer Forever

It's happening. All over the internets, fashiony people are starting to wax poetic about everything fall- cooler temperatures, NYFW, scarves, pumpkin spice lattes, leather pants, etc.- and I can't stand it. I respect everyone's right to enjoy the season where everything dies, but come on! Here in Chicago we have at least another month of heat and humidity, maybe more, so why not enjoy it before we're bombarded with holidays, thundersnow, and the annual 10 pound weight gain? To encourage others to cling to enjoy these last summer days and nights while we have them, I thought I'd share some of Dethrose Vintage's summer lookbook. I was so excited when Karyn asked me to model with her, as her go-to photographer/graphic designer, Katie, always churns out the prettiest images. I'll also take any chance I can get to frolic around the beach in beautiful dresses with my snarky vintage Barbie doll friend, her moustached lover, and everyone's favorite cat lady.

Below are just a few of my favorite shots, but you can peruse the entire lookbook here.

I hope you all are able to get out there and enjoy the season of hot dogs, beer, baseball, and outdoor makeout sesh's while you can! And remember, I'm taking names of you who bitch about the heat. Come December, I don't want to hear ONE complaint about the weather.

(Sorry for the sass, I'm just hungry.)

photos by Megan W Photography

Since today marks three years of wedded bliss with my dude, I thought I'd share some of our engagement photos. I think I love these even more than our wedding photos, since we look more like ourselves. Our photographer also let us geek out a bit and recreate some famous photos of celebrity couples. Can you guess which ones and who?

Mike, you're the best husband this crazy cat lady could ask for. You get me Thai take out and rub my feet after long runs, you let the dog sleep at the foot of the bed even though that's where your feet go, and frequently make me spit out my beer in fits of laughter. I love you, I'm proud of you, and I'm proud of us. Here's to many more.

Pretty Woman

sunglasses, Anthro / dress, Dethrose Vintage / jacket, Zara / sandals, Sam Edelman / purse, vintage

When my pal Karyn listed this dress in her shop I knew I had to have it immediately, even though it was a tisch too big. I mean, who could pass up an almost exact replica of the iconic brown polka dotted dress Julia Roberts wore to the race track in Pretty Woman? Not this nerd. After Karyn's go-to seamstresses tailored the dress beautifully I packed it up to wear to my 10 year high school reunion, which was last weekend. I had all these grand plans of taking photos of this dress against a backdrop of 12 foot high corn and pink Hoosier sunsets, but was having too good of a time catching up with my family and old friends to mess around with photos (these were taken last night while celebrating my hubs' birthday). I was actually a bit nervous before the reunion, but my old band buddy Catherine and I calmed our nerves with pre-party drinks and lots of "one time, at band camp" stories, including a rant about the one year our band director decided to strip our marching uniforms of their sequined sashes. "How DARE you take away our sparkles!" we roared, waving our instruments and scrawny, ineffectual fists. The next year the man came to his senses and gave us back our dignity, and our sequins, but that one painfully dull, lusterless year haunts me to this day [shudders].
